FOCS Parent Group Facilitators

All FOCS parent groups are peer-led which means we hire and train former group attendees who are parents and caregivers with lived experience.

Our Parent Group Facilitators receive ongoing training and support to grow as individuals and professionals. They engage parents with FOCS curriculum which promotes continuous learning about racial justice and intercultural solidarity.

We build parent confidence and support by unpacking what a racist world looks like and feels like for Black and brown children, especially during this time of racialized violence.

Many of our parents have gone on to accept DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) positions and other important roles in their community.

  • “FOCS is such an important pillar in our community, and my greatest wish is for it to grow and have everyone access these incredible people and support system. To have an organization that is focused on families of color, and supporting them has been invaluable. To provide a safe space for families to understand and process their own race histories and traumas in order to be more present and available to raise our children is an incredible goal to have, and they do it so well. By healing our grown ups, our children can grow up without the baggage we’ve all been carrying for generations.”

  • “I love providing a space for parents to find community amongst one another. It was what I needed so desperately when I was starting my parenting journey as a BIPOC parent…Now I'm able to help create a space where people of color can come together as our authentic selves to share our experiences, support, and learn from each other.”
